ORGANIZATIONS
There are of course a plethora of film-related companies and organizations within Chicago. As of now, I have decided to focus on not-for-profit organizations and other companies that stand out as having a significant voice in the community over specific production companies.

IFA Chicago

IFA Chicago is the organization in the city that has the potential to be the glue that binds the Chicago film community. Formerly Stage18 and IFP Chicago, this new organization is still rolling out benefits with the goal of "doing less, better." Ultimately, the price of membership is a little high at $100/yr but it's worth the cost if you're new to the city or scene and a good way to connect with different aspects of the community.

Kartemquin Films

If you are a documentary filmmaker, there's no better place than Kartemquin. Known from their Academy Award winning and nominated films from Hoop Dreams to Minding the Gap, Kartemquin produces some of the best work in the city on a greater scale. As another non-profit, the company offers several labs, internships, and development opportunities that are very well regarded.

Full Spectrum Features

Full Spectrum Features is yet another nonprofit that emphasizes diversity in their projects, which includes various short form projects and web series. Their website provides a way to pitch projects and is a good opportunity for women, people of color, and the LGBTQ+ community wanting to work in a less-than-traditional narrative approach. They also organize the annual Chicagoland Shorts showcase of films, which are similarly more experimental in nature.

Chicago Media Angels

One of the few places that actually has money, Chicago Media Angels is an angel investment group based out of Stage18. CMA provides advisory services, tax credit financing, and allows you to submit and potentially pitch projects to investors. The success of your pitch, however, will likely depend on things such as talent attached and the return on investment.
