INTERACTIVE MAP
One of the most challenging aspects of building a film community within a larger city comes from the geography. The issues with the Chicagoland area are particularly unique and reflective of the division one sees within the city as a whole, including income inequality and gentrification. I'll be the first to tell you that the my knowledge of the filmmaking scene on the south side is vastly underdeveloped. Unlike New York or Los Angeles, there isn't as much institutional support from organizations that can realistically put the different resources and groups under one umbrella in order to work together. Hopefully by acknowledging this division and seeing where different resources fall geographically (at least those with a physical location), we can begin to rectify this division and make different conclusions as to why.
